From Workshop to Factory: Growing a Brush Business in Shenzhen

Every factory starts somewhere. Ours began as a two-machine workshop in Shenzhen, hand-assembling wooden hairbrushes for local wholesalers.

The first growth step was specialization. Instead of accepting every job, we focused on wood and bamboo brushes, investing in better drilling and tufting equipment as volumes justified it.

The second step was process. We wrote down every operation — cutting tolerances, sanding sequences, inspection criteria — so quality no longer depended on who happened to be at the machine that day.

Shenzhen's ecosystem helped: nearby suppliers of bristle, lacquer and packaging meant short lead times and fast prototyping, which became our competitive edge with overseas buyers.

The shift from workshop to factory was not about size but about repeatability — the ability to make 5,000 brushes that match the 50 we made for the sample.
