Lessons From Our First OEM Partnership

Our first true OEM project — a private-label brush for an Australian wellness brand — taught us more than a dozen trade show conversations combined.

The first lesson was about sampling. We iterated five times on bristle density before the brand's founder was satisfied, and each iteration taught us to listen to the why behind a change request, not just the change itself.

The second lesson was documentation. The order had strict packaging requirements, and our first draft of the artwork guide was too vague. We now provide detailed printing specifications with every packaging approval.

The third was honesty about timelines. We quoted conservatively, delivered early, and that single shipment became the foundation of a six-year relationship.

To this day, our rule for OEM work is simple: the sample is the contract. Everything that matters — materials, dimensions, finish, packaging — is fixed at sample approval, and production follows it exactly.
